EARL SET 12 Superb 1790 George III Silver Heavy Gauge Dinner Plates 6684 grams
WHAT A FABULOUS ANTIQUE HALLMARKED SET OF 12 ENGLISH SILVER DINNER PLATES. IT IS OF THE HIGHEST QUALITY. And of a very good weight and very special being in such fine order. A quite fabulous late 18th century set of hallmarked silver items.
It has a most attractive shape. The crests of the LESLIE-MELVILLE family beneath an earl's coronet for The Earl of Melville and Leven. Crest one:a dexter arm embowed in armour the hand grasping a sword all proper and motto:PRO REGE ET PATRIA (For my king and country) (LESLIE).
Crest two:the head of a ratch hound erased sable and motto DENIQUE COELUM (Heaven at last) (MELVILLE). Made in London and by maker Robert Sharp. Each has a Gadroon rim. Of 5 lobed (sided) form. Each lovely item is 9.5 inches in width. Height is 0.625 inch. A wonderful set of 12 Silver Dinner Plates. Definitely one for the collectors!A truly special antique lot well worth owning. The condition is excellent and all it needs is to be used. Would make a very nice present indeed.
Each lovely plate is of exceptional quality and is a most delightful piece of hefty table silver. Weight of silver combined is a staggering 6684 grams (214.92 troy ounces), each piece is made of very thick gauge silver throughout.
